Control Panel Overview:  Address-on-the-Fly™

Reflexion’s in-message control panel provides a unique, device-independent means for bi-directional communication between Reflexion and its users.  Reflexion uses the control panel to inform the user about a message, for example, indicating that it was delivered because the sender is on the recipient’s whitelist; users employ the control panel to communicate with Reflexion about changes to their inbox access preferences for a specific sender, domain or address.  Given the simple and intuitive nature of the control panel, many users will never need to interact with Reflexion’s message center.

The content of the control panel changes as appropriate for a specific message.   In the case of an incoming message sent to an Address-on-the-Fly (AOTF), the control panel identifies the AOTF and explains the basis for delivery, as shown in the following example.

You received this message because the sender is using an Address-on-the-Fly.

Reflexion’s underlying database monitors address usage by sender, and automatically applies the user-specified inbox access policies appropriate for each sender and address.  Because it tracks To-From address pairs, Reflexion can easily determine when an AOTF disclosed to one party is used by a different party.  In this scenario, the control panel informs the user of the presumed address sharing, and presents the user with access choices for the new sender and the address.

Protect this address from undesired senders

You received this message because receipt@merchant1.com shared your email address.

Because a message sent to an AOTF would be totally unrecognizable to your local email server and hence undeliverable, Reflexion translates the address, in a fully automated and transparent fashion, for delivery to the recipient’s inbox.  By displaying the AOTF in the control panel, it enables these purpose-specific addresses to be used as tags to reveal message relationships.  For example, if an AOTF is used for a marketing campaign, any responses on the address can be easily recognized as generated by the campaign.  Similarly, if a corporate recruiter posts a job description on a bulletin board and uses an AOTF that includes the requisition number, any responses on the address can be easily tied to that specific job.  If an AOTF is used for electronic banking, any message purportedly from one’s bank that arrives on a different address can be immediately recognized as fraudulent.  When the marketing campaign is over, or the job is filled, or the banking relationship ends, the addresses can be disabled to avoid any spam that might develop on the address.
