Control Panel Overview
Reflexion provides a very simple means of empowering users with control over their inbox, without requiring them to interact with the web-based message center. This is accomplished using an in-message control panel that Reflexion automatically inserts at the bottom of incoming messages, and strips from outgoing replies and forwarded messages. The control panel provides a unique, device-independent means for bi-directional communication between Reflexion and its users. Reflexion uses the control panel to inform the user about a message, for example, identifying the Address-on-the-Fly™ to which it was sent or alerting the recipient to presumed address sharing; users employ the control panel to communicate with Reflexion about changes to their inbox access preferences for a specific sender or domain. Use of the control panel is optional. Control Panel content is dynamic – it depends on the characteristics of the incoming message, such as the address to which it was sent and the community of users associated with that address. For example, if a sender is on the user’s whitelist, the control panel indicates this and provides options to either (a) remove the sender from the whitelist, causing all future messages from the sender to be filtered, or (b) blacklist the sender, causing all future messages from the sender to be blocked.
If, on the other hand, the sender is not on the whitelist and the message passes through the content filter, the control panel changes, indicating the message score, the user’s spam blocking level, and the actions that would have been taken at other scoring thresholds. In this scenario, the user is given the option of blocking future messages from the sender, in the event that either the sender or the message is deemed undesirable.
A number of other message scenarios exist, which are reflected in different control panel messages and options. Reflexion’s control panels have been translated into Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, Italian and Chinese, with Russian and Hebrew on the way.
